WHAT IS ACCELERATION?Acceleration is an educational method designed to educate students at the speed and difficulty that the student is prepared for and motivated to accomplish. (Johnsen & Kaul, 2016)
Colangelo, Assouline, and Gross (2004) put it this way, “Acceleration does not mean pushing a child. It does not mean forcing a child to learn advanced material or socialize with older children before he or she is ready. Acceleration is really about letting students soar.” Acceleration provides the academic challenge and engagement that gifted students need to succeed and maximize their potential. Acceleration has also been shown to produce positive effects on the social and emotional lives of gifted students. (Assouline, Assouline, Colangelo, & Gross, 2015)
